On the Beach is a sensory show for older people living with dementias and their carers. After a successful tour in 2023, the show is back for a 7 week tour of the UK from Southampton to Scarborough. 

  • Rebecca Manson Jones

    Director (Artistic Director / CEO of Spare Tyre)

    Rebecca joined Spare Tyre in 2019 and just before Lockdown in 2020 started work on We Will Be Happy Here co-creative workshops with our then brand new partners, the Bangladeshi Parents & Carers Association (BPCA) in Tower Hamlets. The project continued in development despite Lockdown and Long Covid and was first produced with BPCA in 2021 and then on tour, with a new iteration created with Lewisham Mencap for the London Borough of Culture at the Albany. Rebecca is now working on a new sensory touring show On The Beach for people living with dementias their carers for 2023. In 2022 Rebecca launched the Covid Cafés - a new strand of participatory work for Spare Tyre, supporting people living with Long Covid (and other long term conditions); and the inclusive practice laboratory Tyre Pressure. 

  • Kali Chandrasegaram

    Movement Direction & Performer

    A multi-disciplined, experimental dancer, choreographer and movement artist, working across many genres from Indian classical to contemporary. Originally from Malaysia where diversity is ingrained, integrating differences is in his veins. He has been an artist in the UK Contemporary South Asian dance scene and has worked for many of the genre's leading companies and organisations for 25 years. 

    With a passion to use Indian dance movement in care and well-being, he has worked with dance and theatre companies and charities taking Indian dance into various care settings and leading movement workshops for people living with dementia, Parkinsons, chronic pain and cancer survivors. 

  • Sophie Holland

    Performer

    Sophie is a freelance performer, maker and facilitator who works regularly in community arts and inclusive arts settings. Her practice is centred in finding joy, power and curiosity while moving and creating. Sophie spends a lot of her time moving outside and nature practices are always present in her work. She trained primarily as a dancer and much of her work is still based in movement and Contemporary dance. Sophie has worked with Spare Tyre on various projects since 2021 including their last tour We Will Be Happy Here, the Ghyama Arts project, the Together Project and their Covid Cafes.

  • Peyvand Sadeghian

    Performer

    Peyvand is an actor and director based in London, known for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (2023), The Power (2023), and Moon Knight (2023). Her work is informed by real-world research, geopolitics, social theory and lived experience. With performance at the core and background in ensemble work, she is an actor, puppeteer, and writer evolving a multi-disciplinary practice encompassing stop motion animation, film and digital technology.

  • Nur Khairiyah

    Touring Producer

    Khai is a London-based Muslim-Malay independent producer from Singapore. She graduated with a Masters in Creative Producing (Distinction) in 2019 at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She runs a platform called RUMAH to empower Asian diaspora creatives in the UK. Her work with RUMAH has been supported by Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Metroland Cultures, and Arts Council England. In 2022, she was nominated for the Asian Woman of Achievement by NatWest. Her recent producing credits includes Departure Lounge Festival for In Good Company, Assistant Producer at Complicité and Guest Curator for Migration Matters Festival in Sheffield. 

  • Pia Richards Glöckner

    Touring & Participation Director

    Pia is a theatre maker, occasional performer, disability and youth arts advocate. Pia gained a lot of her experience as a young person participating and performing with Company Three and eventually going on to work at Company Three and the Barbican Centre. Since she has worked in various support roles working with theatre writers and Director’s doing Access Support work with disabled artists helping to disassemble barriers that make working in the arts difficult. She has also been working as an Assistant Director on Juniper and Jules- Soho Theatre & FAUN- Cardboard Citizens production. 

  • Tallulah (T) Harris

    Technical Stage Manager

    Tallulah is a Northern-based Stage Manager, specialising in rural and non traditional touring theatre. They love to work on theatre with heart, bringing it to communities where it will have a positive impact.

  • Crin Claxton

    Production Manager

    Crin has three decades' experience in theatre, and chooses to work on shows that change the world. Crin has a long association with Spare Tyre and is delighted to be supporting On The Beach.

  • ILĀ

    Sound Designer

    Multifaceted artist, composer and producer, ILĀ's work traverses ethereal non-binary vocal timbre, dense sonic textures and quantum data sonification. ILĀ has performed globally with recent commissions/collaborators including Turner Prize 2023 winner Jessie Darling’s MISERERE, Loomaland's Robot Swans, Kindred VR, the European Space Agency & Kent Refugee Action Network (Little Amal). As co-founder and director of London Contemporary Voices, ILĀ has worked with over 20 Grammy winning artists including Alt-J, Imogen Heap and U2 as well as two BBC Proms, the Harry Potter Play soundtrack and fashion shows for designers such as Burberry and Tommy Hilfiger. In 2022, they co-founded Trans Voices, the U.K.'s first professional trans+ choir. 

  • Lisa Muten

    Facilitator

    Lisa is an Associate Artist with Spare Tyre who has worked on a number of participatory projects including, as part of the touring show On the Beach, facilitating series of sensory based workshops for people living with Dementia and Sensory Interaction Training Workshops for Carers and Support Workers. 

    From 2017-2022 Lisa led on the Together Project, working with elderly persons and their carers living with Dementia in collaboration with another artist, Jacksons Lane Theatre and the Haynes Centre Haringey. With the onset of Covid this developed into the Spare Tyre ‘Through Your Letterbox’ project devising and making creative pack that were posted to elderly persons both living at home and in care settings. 

  • Alice Kristina Rose

    Costume Maker

    Alice is a designer/maker, specialising in bold, tactile costumes and immersive environments. Her work often focuses on young audiences and those facing barriers to inclusion, creating textiles-based sensory wonderlands, to encourage imaginative play and communication. She has worked with many companies, including Oily Cart and the English Touring Opera.

  • Jazmin Qunta

    Facilitator

    Jazmin has over five years of professional experience in the arts. As well as making work across a range of disciplines, she works with different organisations supporting young people and adults in creative and educational settings.
