  • About Fauve

    Fauve Alice is a performance maker working in theatre and performance art. She joined Spare Tyre in 2014 and has since worked on The Garden, and created the performance Nights at the Circus exploring themes on sex and sexuality in collaboration with Spare Tyre Artists Ellie Mason and David Munns. 

    With Spare Tyre in 2020 

    Fauve has worked on Spare Tyre Through Your Letterbox, creating multi-sensory experiences for people living with dementias in Redbridge. She was Associate Director for Signal Fires: Beyond the Shield, directing David Munns as compere and Ellie Mason's performance of Ordinary Woman. She also published a pamphlet exploring 2019's visit to Edinburgh Fringe with Nights at the Circus.

Debbie Bandara

  • About Debbie

    Debbie started her dance career at the Royal Academy of Dance. She went onto further training and learnt different dance styles making her a versatile dancer and physical performer. Her repertoire is a collection of carefully mastered dance genres from Indian, hip-hop, contemporary, African, Dancehall to physical theatrical dance. She is CEO and Founder of Forest Tribe Theatre, while her background in Artificial Intelligence has always interested her in technology and electronic sounds, visuals and music.

    We asked Debbie to contribute a sensory film to Spare Tyre Through Your Letterbox, bringing her experience of Indian dance to the programme.

Yolande Bramble-Carter

  • About Yolande

    Yolande is a socially engaged theatre practitioner specialising in sensory, visual, and physical performance approaches. She has toured The Garden with Spare Tyre and facilitated the TogetherBlue Skies and My Voice My Words My Sound projects.

    With Spare Tyre in 2020 

    Yolande co-facilitated Together at Haynes Dementia Hub and co-created our Spare Tyre Through Your Letterbox multi-sensory experiences for people living with dementia. This Autumn, she co-facilitated the first online Ghyama Arts! workshops for learning disabled adults from the Bangladeshi Parents and Carers Association. 

    She's also been creating the role of Aurora for next year's show We Will Be Happy Here, and represented us at the Age of Ageing Artfully and Speak - Listen - Reset - Heal: An anti-racism conference for the UK’s theatre and dance sectors.

Kali Chandrasegaram

  • About Kali

    Kali is a multi-disciplinary, experimental dancer and choreographer, working  from classical to contemporary. Originally from Malaysia, Kali is a key artist in the UK Contemporary South Asian dance scene and has worked for many of the genre's leading companies. He performed in our 2019 show Love Unspoken

    With Spare Tyre in 2020 

    Kali was due to perform in Love Unspoken in May, before it was cancelled due to the pandemic. Instead we asked him to create multi-sensory videos for people from the South Asian diaspora who are living with dementias, including an evocative hand dance with music by Paul Johnson.

Leslie Davidoff

  • About Leslie

    Leslie is a Yorkshire-based actor who has appeared in numerous television and film comedies and dramas, including Coronation Street and Destination: Dewsbury.

    Leslie played multiple roles in Signal Fires: Beyond the Shield, our online performance of short play by people with experience of shielding in November.

Esther and Tamara

  • About Esther and Tamara

    Esther Hopkins (composer/ librettist) and Tamara Stein (soprano) write new contemporary classical vocal music for both online and offline performance, and are currently developing an opera about Florence Nightingale. We got to know them in 2020 via What Next? Lewisham. 

    With Spare Tyre in 2020

    The duo's aria You Can't Hold Me Now was a commission for Signal Fires: Beyond the Shield. It explores how for many people, due to chronic conditions, live permanently in self-isolation. It expresses how much people with invisible illnesses hope, that some of this inclusiveness stays around after the pandemic.

Lesley Ewen

  • About Lesley

    Lesley Ewen is a professional performance maker with over 40 years experience working in a variety of media. Her extensive experience in creating traditional theatre provides her with a solid foundational understanding of all forms of performance. Completing an MA in Performance Making from Goldsmiths, University of London, one of the UK’s top art colleges, deepened her performance practice, which includes Live Art, site-responsive devised work and improvised + devised live performance.

Mia Foo

    Mia Foo is an actor with a passion for new-writing and is always excited to work on fresh ideas with up and coming writers/directors for both stage and screen.

Aisling Gallagher

  • About Aisling

    Aisling Gallagher is a disabled Irish artist based in Lewisham. In 2020 they created autistic-led theatre and arts company, Good Behaviour. Aisling is taking part in the Croydon Emerging Writers Programme (Disentangle Productions/Stanley Halls) and was recently longlisted for the 2020 DYSPLA Writers Residency.

    We commissioned Aisling to write a three-minute play for Signal Fires: Beyond The Shield. The piece, Slam, explored challenges facing people in accessing mental health services during the pandemic.

Genetic Moo

  • About Genetic Moo

    Genetic Moo is a collaboration between Nicola Schauerman and Tim Pickup who are based in Margate. They work all over the UK and abroad with digital arts organisations. Genetic Moo build living installations in pixels and light. In dark spaces you can interact with fantastical creatures or immerse yourself in ever-changing digital ecosystems - which they call Microworlds, a current focus. 

    With 2020 in Spare Tyre 

    Genetic Moo created the hypnotic digital campfire around which we gathered for Signal Fires: Beyond the Shield. Our cancelled Thinking Space weekend - during which artists were instead encouraged to create responses to Lockdown - inspired them to create a Microworld at Home, which also then featured in Signal Fires.

Caroline Jeyaratnam‐Joyner

  • About Caroline

    Caroline has been training marginalised groups for eighteen years including delivery of drama and theatre programmes for Charlton Athletic Race Equality, The Park Theatre and Second Wave For Youth Arts. 

    With a masters in arts in therapy and education, Caroline is an Arts Award moderator and consultant for Trinity Guildhall, an annual reviewer for Stagecoach and an artistic and quality assessor for Arts Council England. 

    With Spare Tyre in 2020

    Caroline produced our Thinking Space weekend for Associate Artists, which very sadly had to be postponed at the last minute due to the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic. She also contributed to the rapid artistic response challenge we set in its place. 

Paul Johnson

  • About Paul

    Paul is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who draws his influences from the folk traditions of Europe, Africa and India. He plays a wide range of instruments specialising in ethnic flutes, reeds and bagpipes. He has worked extensively in theatre notably at Shakespeare's Globe for the last decade. He enjoys improvisation, bespoke site-specific work and sound healing. 

    With Spare Tyre in 2020 

    Paul was due to perform in Love Unspoken at Tara Arts and IYAF, Kingston, before the pandemic struck. Instead, we asked him to provide music for our multi-sensory videos for people living with dementias, which we have been sharing weekly on YouTube.

Emily Ling Williams

  • About Emily

    Emily is a Resident Director at the Almeida Theatre.  She was previously a Jerwood Assistant Director at the Young Vic and the Trainee Director at Paines Plough. As a writer she trained at Soho Theatre and the Young Vic and has also worked as a script reader and a dramaturg.

    Emily's piece Under the Knife was one of two short plays commissioned for Signal Fires: Beyond the Shield, our online show in November.

Ellie Mason

  • About Ellie

    Ellie is a London based actor/performer. She has a physical disability, uses a wheelchair and has a mild learning disability. Ellie has performed in Spare Tyre productions for over 15 years including Pieces of OurselvesFeeble Minds, Ridiculous Recipes, Tempest and most recently, Nights at The Circus which premiered at New Diorama Theatre, toured to six London venues and enjoyed a two week run at Zoo Venues, Edinburgh Fringe 2019. 

    With Spare Tyre in 2020 

    Ellie was one of our four sponsored artists on the Freelance Task Force, and collaborated with Alice Theobald on a film about exploring the challenges facing artists that are neuro-divergent and/or have a disability, and what a more inclusive future could look like. In November, she performed her monologue Ordinary Woman as part of Signal Fires: Beyond the Shield.

Helen Mugridge

  • About Helen

    Helen is an experienced production manager. Her previous credits include: RED, Likely Story (Wales Millennium Centre), Gaping Hole, Rachel Mars and Greg Wohead (Ovalhouse, London), Little Wimmin, Figs in Wigs (Pleasance, London and HOME, Manchester), Class, Scottee (Edinburgh, Canada and UK tour), Atomic 50 and an interactive installation for Waltham Forest Borough of Culture.

    Helen was Production Manager Signal Fires: Beyond the Shield, helping us figure out how to do our first online show via Zoom, managing all the technical details on the night and making sure everything ran in the right order!

David Munns

  • About David

    "Hi, David Munns here. Writer, Actor and Illusionologist, also occasionally designer too. On the writing side it is mostly scripts, I have written quite a bit of comedy but there has been some drama too. I have written short dramas like Another Day and Morgan’s Lake for radio and co-wrote Edinburgh Fringe show Nights at the Circus (in which I played not one but two different roles)."

    David compered our online show Signal Fires: Beyond the Shield, during which he brought several of his illusions to the digital space. He was also one of the four artists we sponsored to take part in the Freelance Task Force.

Lisa Muten

  • About Lisa

    Lisa is a visual artist who has been working as an artist facilitator and tutor since 2008. She has worked with Spare Tyre on the Just Westminster and Blue Skies projects and was co-lead on the Together project at the Haynes Dementia Hub. 

    With Spare Tyre in 2020 

    Her experience working on Together made her a natural choice to co-create our Spare Tyre Through Your Letterbox multi-sensory experiences for people living with dementias in Haringey, Redbridge and Lewisham. She's also made a number of the sensory videos associated with that programme. Her stop motion animation Lockdown was made during the time she would have been attending our cancelled Thinking Space weekend in March.

Jo Paul

  • About Jo

    Jo is an artist and scenographer for theatre and dance, with an MA in Scenography from Trinity Laban Conservatoire. Her art work has been exhibited UK-wide and her designs from the Edinburgh Fringe to the Royal Opera House. 

    With Spare Tyre in 2020 

    Her 2020 with Spare Tyre started with R&D for We Will Be Happy Here with participants from the Bangladeshi Parents and Carers Association at St Margaret's House. She's now working as Designer for the show ahead of its planned premiere next year.

    Jo was sponsored by Spare Tyre and Emergency Exit Arts to take part in the Freelance Task Force. We also gave Jo initial seed funding for Each and Every One, a durational artwork marking UK deaths from COVID-19, which was subsequently supported by Artcry.

Mary Price O'Connor

  • About Mary

    Mary Price-O’Connor‘s career is a varied mix of performing teaching and workshop leading.

    She is a violinist and pianist. As well as teaching Dalcroze Eurhythmics on the STP and Kindergarten, she teaches Dalcroze at Orchard House and Bassett House Preparatory Schools in West London. Since 2016, she has taught Dalcroze on Pro Corda’s Primary and Junior courses.

    Mary was part of our R&D team for We Will Be Happy Here with the Bangladeshi Parents and Carers Association between January and March.

Victor Rios

  • About Victor

    Victor is an actor, theatre artist and filmmaker who has collaborated with: OvalHouse Paper Project, Counterpoint Arts Eyes with No Barriers, Maya productions Super Heroes and Heroins of the South River and Spare Tyre as Project Manager for Over The Road

    With Spare Tyre in 2020 

    Victor was film-maker for our We Will Be Happy Here R&D early in the year, documenting the process in film. He also created a film about the making of our 2019 show Love Unspoken, and a creative response to lockdown during our cancelled Thinking Space weekend in March.

Alice Theobald

  • About Alice

    Alice is a visual artist that develops multifaceted installations which incorporate sculpture, music, performance and video and is also a member the Art-Rock trio Ravioli Me Away. Her work explores the spectrum of acting and performance present in our everyday lives and the essence of drama and reality when representing complex human themes such as love, mental health, freedom, memory and doubt.

    Alice was one of the four artists we sponsored to take part in the Freelance Task Force. She collaborated with Ellie Mason and artists from Access All Areas to make a film exploring the challenges facing artists that are neuro-divergent and/or have a disability.
