Fists & Fingernails

1987

Following the success of previous collaborations, Spare Tyre worked again at The Cockpit Theatre to devise a play with young people that looked at issues surrounding gender stereotypes, homosexuality and sexism. Although most participants in Fists and Fingernails had no previous drama experience, many went on to succeed in careers in theatre and performing arts, including playwright Roy Williams OBE. 

What I took away was “wow that’s the power of theatre, that’s what… a song, just a song, can do and how it can stoke up these feelings among this group of young people”, that had never happened to me before
