Soho bombing
1999
The bombing of the Admiral Duncan pub in Soho 30th April, killing 3 and wounding 70, had an impact on Spare Tyre in cementing the importance of the Pink Project.
The Pink Project had begun in 1997 with Life on the Outside. It was part of a larger project to discuss and share the experiences of young people from the LGBTQ+ community. Although homosexuality had been legal in the UK for 17 years, the importance to openly discuss and hear the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community was made clear by the bombing in Soho.
