The Promise

Exploring the moral complexities of assisted dying, The Promise is a play based on real events that took place in Camden in the 1980s. 

 Local author Charlotte Hough was tried for the murder of someone she cared for; it was a case that made national news, and still sparks debate today. 

This is the debut play by SilverSage, a group of 60+ actors and Camden residents, who strongly felt that this story needed to be heard. Provoking questions that are important personally, politically and socially, the play uses police transcripts and press reports to present the audience with this complex and challenging story.

SilverSage members were first brought together by working on Spare Tyre productions, they are now one of our Associate Artists. The Promise was their first play, part funded by a Crowdfunder campaign, co-produced by Spare Tyre, and directed by our Associate Director Isaac Ngugi. It premiered at our Invisible Women festival in February 2018 at New Diorama theatre.

This play, based on real events in Camden in the 1980s, is an important contribution to a debate that needs to be had
