Track 2. Participant 5

Feet. I have dancers feet I’ve been told. They’re the only small thing on my body. How do they support it? Oh yeah your brain is only smaller. My feet are the only thing that tans in the sun without getting burnt. I can no longer wear heels, I now need comfort. I have psoriasis and it has now travelled to my feet.

Track 3. Emma

My feet are not small, not large. They are scaley, they have a lot of hard skin which I just cannot ouch. I had verrucas when I was a kid and my dad would pin me down and scrape them with a scalpel then add a drop of acid then scrape some more. We reached a strange honeycomb-like centre in a part of the toe once. I still cannot bare to have my feet touched.

Track 4. Participant 3

My feet take me a child to a beach with pale gold sand. Under a sun smiling in a blue sky in Pouree on the east coast of India. Arms akimbo I’m facing the Bay of Bengal. I can feel the warm sand as my feet dig into it, splaying my toes. A wild breaker swirls up to my mid-calf, whoops! I nearly loose my balance and run for safety to my tigress of my ma and the tiger that my buba is. They share a drink of fresh green coconut water as they watch us, their playful gentle cubs, with pride. My feet travel to many worlds, across mountains and valleys, over seas, to arrive at encounters that transform me to be the human being I am today.

Track 5. Participant 7

My feet are beautiful and have always been present and faithful to me and carried me through rough and calm terrain. They walk me into many seas where I paddled and swam in the waters and took me to many countries. Also rushed me in to where angels fear to tread and walked me miles upon miles of hospital grounds where I once worked.

Track 6. Participant 4

I want my feet to take me to an airport so I can visit Mexico. I want my feet to run along the beach. I want my feet to get on a boat and into a cage so I can see great white sharks.

Track 7. Emma

Where do I want my feet to take me? Home. I always want them to take me home. That sounds very unadventurous I know. I wish it could me mountains or sides of tall buildings, or the moon. But, home. Home to the three that I love so, so much. It’s exciting to have adventures to let my size sixes take me out through the door of our purple house, decide which way to turn, to trot or run or stride. They are strong feet, strong legs. I feel I can walk far. But something keeps me tethered closer to home, perhaps I’m afraid of not finding my way back. Where would I go if I cut my leash? How far? How high? The three that I love don’t want to hold me back. They want my feet to dance, to run, to fly. Just to come back later, later that day and be mum again. Feet in slippers. Navy covered in fluff and carpet fur. Mum feet, I’m afraid.

Track 8. Participant 5

I’d like my feet to take me to the emerald isle of my family, to feel the cold moss of the bog in mayo, to really feel my roots, where I come from. From an island of music, dance, poetry, laughter, famines, hardship, colonialism, slavery, war, freedom fighters, literal giants, president-makers, film stars, a lilt in their voice, a welcome throughout the world, hard workers, family, home, soil, earth, bog, island, romantic, harsh, forgiving, holy, leaders in civil rights, forward thinkers, poverty, divisions, political pawns, ununited.

Track 9. Participant 5

To my younger self: run for the hills! You are fantastic, you are not useless, you are a great human being, you are a fantastic mother. Stand up for yourself, shout! Let it be known you’re abused. Listen to your gut. Don’t let those in authority overpower you. Go to court, don’t be afraid. You have done nothing wrong. You have done nothing wrong. You have done nothing wrong. You have done nothing wrong. You have done nothing wrong. Find your calling, travel, laugh. Have loads of romance. Be your boss. Have arguments, it’s ok, it’s natural. Don’t be trod on. Don’t be a victim. Know when to get out forever. Love yourself.

Track 10. Participant 2

Why are you being quiet all past years, never speak out? Didn’t tell your family. Why are you so scared from them? They are your family. Don’t be scared. Be brave. Don’t put on yourself all boy clothes. How many years you can escape from this? Why are you shame yourself? You are clever, you are beautiful, and strong. You are lovely girl. Not a boy. Please, take off the shoes, I love you.

Track 11. Emma

Don’t be afraid. That seems so easy to say and it’s simple, but sometimes so hard to do. Live with daring! Don’t overthink, don’t overwork. Straining, straining to be right. Don’t worry about what they will think or say. Don’t worry about being looked at. Be proud, let them look. Be you. Just carry on, little by little, just being you, being true. There are so many ways to be right, don’t ever think there is only one path, one way to be. Don’t feel that pressure to be right. Left is good too. Be true. See the beauty in yourself, your own lines, see how there is no perfect. There are many beauties, many shapes and feelings and colours.

Track 12. Participant 4

My advice to my younger self would be: learn self-respect and choose men wisely.

Track 13. Participant 3

Swim regularly. Eat healthily. Stay away from people who express negative feelings like envy, jealousy and bitterness, and our negatively critical of how you look and how you live your life. Pray regularly and meditate for ten minutes every day. Go for holidays and long walks in nature. Do fun things in town with those who love and support you. Choose very carefully who you show your vulnerability to. You are gifted with loving parents who have created a warm safe and beautiful home for you and brought you up to be an independent thinker and a clever girl. Remember their love and generosity, give it freely to those who you meet in your travels in life, just ensure that they merit it. Have high standards in every area of your life. Listen before you speak. Be discriminating always. Fear nothing. Walk tall. Be free! All will be well…

Track 17. Participant 4

Things that I am good at: communicating with people, remembering song lyrics, giving my son loads of affection, roller skating and multi-tasking.

Track 18. Participant 4

Things that make me cry: music, animal and child abuse, thoughts of my family break up, and my anxiety disorder. Things that make me happy: my son, my best friend, music, the sea and the forest.

Track 20. Participant 5

I am a natural mother, I excel at it. The one true thing that just came effortlessly to me, and which I adore. I also love flowers and nature, my dog, other animals. My faith keeps me strong, but not always. I am human and I fail every day, but I know I am never alone. I have my guardian angels and my God, Mary and Jesus and all the saints in heaven, who will never ever leave me and will always love me. They only ever want me to succeed.

We all came together just at the right time, it’s a privilege to know you all
