Moving Portraits is a new series of video portraits exploring identity and body image. It is produced by Spare Tyre as part of our Heritage Lottery funded ST40 project, and led by artist Josh Grigg.
40 years after Spare Tyre began with a project focusing on female body image, we revisit this theme of identity and representation, through a project working with people with learning disabilities, older people and children. This exhibition is the end result.
Moving Portraits workshops allowed participants to direct themselves and have the freedom to express their identities in any way they like; movement, collage, dance, drawing, and anything else they think of! These actions were recorded using green screen technology and are displayed as a video portrait, enabling participants to have control over how they are presented.
