This solo dance piece by Maria Ghoumrassi discusses female identity and motherhood
My maternal grandmother had 20 children… My mother lost three babies. How did they cope in these circumstances? Were they bound together by their experiences, or torn apart?
A Tree Without Leaves, a co-production between us and Associate Artist Maria Ghoumrassi, examines what is it to be, or not to be, a mother. Using dance, drawing, and singing it explores the meaning of 'womanhood' in contemporary society.
Having premiered at our Invisible Women Festival in Feburary 2018, the piece has since gone on to be performed at The Bush, Curve Leicester and Chisenhale Dance Space.
