Are you a care worker or care manger working in the London Borough of Croydon? Are you interested in refreshing you creative skills and gaining skills and confidence to embed creativity into your care work?

Spare Tyre Theatre Company and Creative Health, Croydon, are collaborating to offer a series of training days and workshops in Croydon in October and November 2025. Spare Tyre's artists have long experience of working in a range of care settings introducing performing and visual arts activities, and lived-experience as family carers. Our expertise includes creative ageing, working with learning disabled people, and sensory work for people living with dementia.

Creativity can contribute to a happier and healthier ageing process, and help people in supported living enjoy self-expression. This series of training workshops offers a chance for professional carers to learn new skills, share experience, and ask questions in confidence in small groups. The training will be tailored to the people in the group. There will be optional self-chosen tasks or exercises to cover between sessions.

Thank you so much for today's training session. Lisa & Sophie led with such clarity & warmth. I feel much more confident now in bringing sensory elements to my practice

Emer O'Connor, participant at Sensory Training for Dementia workshop, 2025

What will happen at the sessions?

10am–12pm:
Join Spare Tyre artists, Freeman Court residents and staff for drop-in creative activities

The sessions will include:

  • working with sensory stimuli for non-verbal people
  • participant-centred creativity
  • small group focus
  • 1-2 engagements and bedside creativity
  • gathering affordable and reusable materials

The sessions will be supported with links to resources and a guide at the end of the programme for onward creative development, ensuring that you feel confident to prepare and embed these practices into your routine afterwards.

Creative Health Croydon will ensure that your managers pay for your time and arrange cover for you to attend the sessions. Advance booking is essential so please contact Marine Begault for more details. We will prioritise people who can attend all sessions. Places are limited to ensure quality of experience.
