"It would be at Gants Hill roundabout, because that's where I live, and it would be noticeable, because it's about time children were brought up understanding more about disability."
For Statues for the Unforgotten, Spare Tyre asked contributors for ideas for new statues of people who currently aren't seen enough in public discussions: women, people who experience racism, Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people, LGBTQIA+ people, or people who were overlooked by history for another reason.
Our Associate Artist Ellie Mason has chosen two influential disabled performers, Liz Carr and Samantha Renke. She makes the case for sparkling statues of them to appear at the Gants Hill roundabout in the London Borough of Redbridge.
