Spare Tyre are delivering sensory workshops for people with dementia to care homes in the London Borough of Croydon in the Autumn/Winter of 2025.

With thanks to repeat funding from the Croydon Loves You grant, we're running a longer series of sensory workshops for care home residents in Croydon. We're returning to the Acacia Care Centre and will also be meeting residents at Heavers Court Care Home. The workshops are designed for people with moderate to advanced dementia and are led by our team of experienced facilitators. This year, Jazmin Qunta is back at the helm, alongside Lara Marshall and Esme Allman. They will lead sensory activities such as:

It is very clear how it is of benefit to people with dementia and their carers

Stuart Cox, Hoxton Hall, 2024

  • Gentle chair warms and exercises
  • Sensory stimulation using natural/ found objects, such as shells, feathers, herbs, and textured batts (felt blankets)
  • Singing, dancing, listening to music, playing instruments
  • Creative activities, such as weaving and making mobiles

The workshops are designed to stimulate cognitive and physical function, reduce social isolation, and improve wellbeing through creative aging.
