"Doreen, we salute you".

For Statues for the Unforgotten, Spare Tyre asked contributors for ideas for new statues of people who currently aren't seen enough in public discussions: women, people who experience racism, Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people, LGBTQIA+ people, or people who were overlooked by history for another reason.

Singer-songwriter Becky H Lee's 'statue' is a tribute to Baroness Doreen Lawrence, the campaigner and mother of Stephen Lawrence, who was murdered in a racist attack in 1993. Among Doreen's many achievements in campaigning for equality, she set up the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust (now Blueprint For All) and established Stephen Lawrence Day, which now takes place on April 22 every year.
